A Day at Bemwa Farm

Located in Barangay Salumay, Marilog District, Bemwa Farm offers a simple yet refreshing escape from the city. 

My visit to this farm was a mix of beautiful scenery, good food, and the chance to enjoy nature up close. It’s a destination that combines the tranquility of rural life with the satisfaction of connecting directly with the source of your food.

Getting There: A Scenic Drive

We set out early from Davao City, eager to start our day at Bemwa Farm. The drive itself is part of the experience. It took us approximately two hours to cover the 82.9 kilometers via the Davao-Bukidnon Road. 

As we ascended into the Marilog District, the air grew cooler and fresher, and the landscape shifted from urban sprawl to lush greenery and rolling hills. 

The road wound through the mountains, offering breathtaking views. By the time we reached the farm, a light fog was beginning to settle over the area. It was a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

Exploring the Bemwa Farm: Flowers and Fresh Produce

Upon entering Bemwa Farm, we were immediately struck by the vibrant display of flowering plants that greeted us. The farm’s entrance is lined with rows of colorful blooms, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Bemwa Farm takes pride in its plant collection, making it a haven for nature lovers and plant enthusiasts alike.

Pick and Pay: Harvesting Your Lettuce

One of the farm’s new attractions is the “Pick and Pay” activity, where visitors have the unique opportunity to pick their lettuce. 

We have not tried this, but there must be something deeply satisfying about selecting your produce straight from the earth. 

It’s a simple activity, but it connects you directly with the food you’ll later enjoy. The farm ensures that the lettuce is grown naturally, so you know you’re getting the freshest and healthiest greens possible.

Local Snacks: A Taste of Marilog

After spending some time exploring the farm, we were ready for a break. Bemwa Farm has a small café that serves a variety of local snacks, perfect for recharging before continuing your visit. 

We decided to try their hot cocoa, or sikwate, made from locally sourced cacao beans. The sikwate was rich and creamy, offering a comforting warmth that paired perfectly with the cool mountain air. 

Alongside it, we enjoyed suman, a traditional sweet rice cake wrapped in banana leaves. The suman was slightly sweet, with a chewy texture that complemented the cocoa beautifully. This simple snack break allowed us to experience the local flavors of the region, adding another layer to our visit.

Farm-to-Table Meals

In addition to snacks, Bemwa Farm has expanded its offerings to include full meals. They now serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, making it easy to plan a visit at any time of the day. 

Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast to start your day, a light and fresh lunch, or a satisfying dinner after a day of exploring, Bemwa Farm has something to offer. 

The farm is open from 6 AM to 6 PM every day, including holidays, so that you can enjoy their offerings at your convenience.

The Market: Fresh Produce to Take Home

Before leaving, we made sure to visit the farm’s market, where they sell a wide variety of fresh produce. The market is well-stocked with salad greens like arugula, kale, and spinach, along with a selection of vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, and potatoes. 

Those who enjoy root crops also have sweet potatoes available. The produce at Bemwa Farm is known for its quality and freshness, making it a great option for those who want to bring home a taste of the farm.
