Located in the tranquil Purok 4, Brgy Pangubatan, Kaputian District, the Island Garden Resort in Pangubatan offers a serene and quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. Nestled on the picturesque Island Garden City of Samal, this hidden gem is perfect for those seeking peace and relaxation.

Getting There

The journey to Island Garden Resort begins at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport if you are flying in from other locations. From the airport, it’s a 14-km drive to the Samal Ferry Terminal. If you are already in Davao City, head directly to the Samal Ferry Terminal.

The 17-km barge ride from Davao City to Samal Island offers stunning views of the surrounding waters. Once on Samal Island, the resort is a scenic 32.7 km drive from the Samal Ferry Terminal in Babak.

First Impressions

Our arrival at the resort was nothing short of an adventure. We reached past midnight under a downpour, which added a touch of drama to our trip. Despite the late hour and the rain, the staff welcomed us warmly.

A slight hiccup occurred when we discovered that pets were not allowed at the resort, and we had brought our dog. Faced with the dilemma of leaving our furry friend outside or turning back, we pleaded with the staff, who kindly made an exception for us with the condition of always keeping our dog on a leash.

This experience served as a valuable lesson: always check pet policies before traveling.

The Resort Experience

One of the most striking features of Island Garden Resort is its white sand beach and calm sea. The serene waters, devoid of waves, make it a haven for kids to swim and play. The resort’s ambiance is enhanced by its strict policy against loud music, ensuring that guests can fully immerse themselves in the tranquility of the surroundings. So, if you’re planning a trip here, leave your karaoke machine at home.

But recently, the resort has been hosting a live acoustic band show.

The resort offers a variety of accommodations, each designed to blend seamlessly with the natural environment. From cozy cottages to spacious family rooms, every unit is equipped with modern amenities while retaining a rustic charm.

Activities and Amenities

While the main attraction is undoubtedly the beach, Island Garden Resort provides a range of activities to keep guests entertained. Snorkeling and kayaking are popular options, allowing visitors to explore the vibrant marine life and crystal-clear waters. For those who prefer to stay on land, the resort offers nature trails and beach volleyball.

Dining at the resort is a delightful experience. The on-site restaurant serves a variety of local and international dishes, with an emphasis on fresh seafood. We enjoyed several meals here, each one a culinary delight: the staff’s attentiveness and the quality of the food added to our overall satisfaction.

Exploring the Surroundings

Beyond the confines of the resort, Samal Island has much to offer. A short drive away, you’ll find local attractions such as the Monfort Bat Sanctuary, home to millions of fruit bats, and Hagimit Falls, a perfect spot for a refreshing dip. These excursions are great for families and add an element of adventure to your stay.

Tips for Future Visitors

Best Time to Visit

The dry season in the Philippines, from December to May, is ideal for visiting, as it offers the best weather for beach activities and exploration.

Packing Tips

Bring light, comfortable clothing, swimwear, and sunscreen. Remember insect repellent and a good book to enjoy by the beach.

Pet Policy

As we learned the hard way, pets are generally not allowed. Confirm all resort policies beforehand to avoid any surprises.
